Method

DC fast ports and stations are public, open, electric stations in the U.S. DOE / NREL Alternative Fuels Data Center, retrieved October 2026. Population is from the U.S. Census Bureau, Vintage 2024 population estimates. A city is ranked only when its NREL address city matches exactly one incorporated Census place in its state. Neighborhoods and unincorporated areas are left out, not estimated. New York and Los Angeles are not ranked: NREL files much of their charging under borough and neighborhood names (Brooklyn, Queens, Van Nuys…), so a city-wide rate would understate them badly. Because postal address cities can extend past city limits, other city rates can run slightly high or low. State rates count every public station in the state.
